The suave sounds of Smarty Pants prove that you don't have to be a geek to play geekrock. Hailing from the large metropolitan city of Edmond, OK, where the water costs more than any other place in the state, these fellas are shining examples of modern day sophistication. They prefer tobacco pipes not cigarettes, boxers not briefs, and silk pantied ladies not cotton clad girls. After several vinyl singles, various cassettes and CDRs, an official CD and CDEP, they have truly fashioned a style of their own. This latest offering, Annoyager, can best be described with one word... fun. 14 tracks
of energetic pop tunes that poke fun at country living, P.M.S., and of
course their own life experiences and misfortunes. Fans of Weezer, Ween, and Karate Kid will surely appreciate this masterpiece.

Reviews:
Ever wonder what they do for fun in Edmond, Oklahoma? My guess is they go out on Saturday night and catch a Smarty Pants gig. The prodigiously talented yet undeniably wacky members of this quartet don't seem to mind that they're stuck in the middle of nowhere; they keep grinding out these silly records anyway, and those of us lucky enough to discover them get to enjoy a few chuckles with our indie rock. On "Annoyager," the lads of Smarty Pants contemplate the vagaries of modern life with songs like "Smoking Makes You Look Older," "I Had A Cat, He Tried To Kill Me," and "I Shouldn't Have Had That Glass of Milk Last Night" (perhaps the world's first anthem to lactose intolerance.) Modern romance gets the once over on "Sexual," a nerd's guide to thinking that he's really hot, while "Smarty Pants Dance Party" will surely have you dancing (just as "R.O.B.O.T.S. O.F. D.O.O.M." will have you fearing for the sci-fi apocalypse that may be closer than we think.) Yet no matter how silly the lyrics or how skittish the vocals, these guys know how to rock, write a catchy melody, and throw down a rock 'n' roll groove that'll have you bouncing off the walls. It's all so dumb, it's smart. And it's from Oklahoma. And there's a hidden track at the end of the disc which is worth waiting around to hear.
- Jim Testa, Jersey Beat
